Dental health is super important, especially for kids. Two big concerns in the dental world are gum troubles and tooth problems. Most of these issues happen because plaque and bacteria like to hang out in our mouths. To keep them in check, it’s a good idea to visit the dentist every six months. These check-ups help us catch problems early, which is super important. If we don’t take care of gum troubles and tooth problems, they can make us feel uncomfortable, cost a lot of money to fix, or even lead to losing a tooth!
At Smiles 4 Keeps we believe that we can beat these dental issues with some simple tricks you can do at home and by coming to see us for regular check-ups.
The best way to keep your teeth happy and healthy is by brushing, flossing, and using fluoride products twice a day. But sometimes, no matter how well you brush and floss, there are some sneaky spots in your mouth that can stay dirty. These tricky spots are where plaque and bacteria like to hide and have a party. They can turn into a super hard substance called tartar, and brushing alone can’t get rid of it. If we don’t kick tartar out, it invites more plaque to come in and cause even more trouble in our gums and teeth.
Scaling and Polishing
Scaling: We use a special tool to gently remove the tartar and say goodbye to plaque near your gum-line.
Polishing: It’s like brushing, but even cooler. It gets rid of any leftover plaque and those stains on your teeth from the foods you eat.
Polishing also makes your teeth smooth, so plaque can’t stick to them as easily. It’s a great time to put on a fluoride shield to keep your teeth strong and safe.
Sometimes, if we find even more trouble hiding deep down, our dental heroes might recommend a big clean-up mission called “periodontal scaling.” This means we need a bit more time and special tools to remove all the sneakiness.
What happens during your visit?
One of our awesome dentists or hygienists will check your teeth and make sure everything’s okay. Then, it’s time for the scaling and polishing adventure. You’ll get a fluoride treat too, which is like giving your teeth an extra shield.
Our team recommends visiting us every six months, so you can get used to seeing your dental friends and keep your teeth super strong. If you have braces, we might suggest coming every three months to make sure everything stays perfect.
Taking care of your teeth is like having a superpower to keep them strong and healthy for a long time. So, start early!
